Man found dead after backcountry avalanche burial near Dutch Draw in Summit County

PHOTOS: An avalanche in the backcountry near Dutch Draw in Summit County ended tragically on Friday. A 31-year-old man from Clinton, Utah was buried in snow and found dead after hours of searching, the Summit County Sheriff's Office confirmed. Reports are that the avalanche was triggered at approximately 10:09 a.m. A woman called 911 to report that her boyfriend attempted to snowboard down steep backcountry terrain outside resort boundaries near Park City Mountain Canyons Village, officials stated. After the report, the Utah Department of Public Safety Helicopter was used for "avalanche control measures" to make it safer for rescue personnel to get to the buried man. Snow machines then transported rescuers into the avalanche area. At 2:29 p.m., the snowboarder was located with the help of an avalanche dog. He was buried approximately two feet below the surface.
