Firefighters from across the state are training in Charlottesville for rescue scenarios that do not happen often, but are very dangerous when they do occur. Twenty firefighters from central Virginia, the Shenandoah Valley, and Hampton Roads took part in ropes training, practicing life-saving situations that require scaling buildings, and other similar scenarios on Wednesday, September 12. “It’s a low frequency, high-risk environment, and while, again, those incidents don't happen often, it’s just imperative that we do it right,” Captain Nick Barrell of the Charlottesville Fire Department said. This class was originally set to go through Thursday, but to allow for firefighters to get back home ahead of the impending hurricane the course wrapped up on Wednesday.
