An overnight fire destroyed three mobile homes in Abingdon, Virginia, according to Abingdon Fire Chief John McCormick. The fire started in the middle trailer and spread to the homes on the left and right on Norfolk Street. Fire officials said the call came in just after 1:30 a.m. after the middle trailer caught on fire. A couple living in the home was alerted by the smoke detectors, according to McCormick. A family of five lived in one of the other trailers, while the third trailer was unoccupied. No one was injured, but two dogs died as a result of the fire. Fire officials said all three homes were destroyed. The Red Cross was called to help the families. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
