Portsmouth Fire Rescue & Emergency Services crews battled two fires early Wednesday morning. The crew responded to the first fire at an apartment around 1:01 a.m. in the 70 block of Riverview Avenue. Everyone in the apartment was safe. Officials said the fire was in the back wall of the building. A second fire at a house was called in around 1:13 a.m. in the 6000 block of Arthur Avenue. Crews found heavy fire coming from the roof. One resident escaped unharmed. Both fires are under investigation by the Portsmouth Fire Marshal’s Office. There are no reports of injuries to firefighters. The City of Chesapeake Fire Department provided assistance with coverage, officials said.
