Louisa County is upgrading its emergency communications system to help six area counties all be on the same wavelength. The communication tower, which is under construction at exit 136 off Interstate 64 West, will help emergency crews respond faster and coordinate with surrounding counties in the event of a regional emergency. The multi-million dollar project will also help EMS officials better communicate over county boundaries when emergency crews might be heading to the same destination. Louisa County Fire Chief Keith Greene says the system will be region-wide. "What that basically does is give a larget footprint for a radio system. Right now, our system has a footprint of Louisa County, with a regional system where multiple counties are operating off of a single core or the brains of the operation that footprint becomes the size of all those counties," he said.
