Donations have poured in generously for Tommie, the male brindle pit bull being cared for at Richmond Animal Care and Control after he was tied to a pole in Abner Clay Park, covered in an accelerant and set on fire Sunday night. But the dog’s prognosis is grim as shelter officials say his burns have worsened and cover nearly his entire body. “We are astounded at the overwhelming generosity and kindness that Tommie has inspired,” the city shelter posted to Facebook on Tuesday. “RACC has received so many donations in his honor that we are sure his vet bill will be satisfied in full.” The shelter said it would use donations above Tommie’s expenses to support the emergency care needed for other animals. It also started a reward fund for information leading to the successful arrest and conviction of a suspect or suspects in Tommie’s brutal arson assault.
