At noon Sunday, about 45 firefighters continued to battle a deep-seated fire at a Chesapeake storage facility that began Saturday night and affected roughly 100 individual units. One firefighter has been injured but is expected to make a full recovery.
A large number of storage spaces, which are "typically packed full of personal belongings," made it a challenge to fully stop the blaze, Assistant Fire Marshal Steve Bradley said in a news release.
The "devastating fire" was under control at 3:30 p.m., and completely extinguished at 5:00 p.m, Bradley said. Management is working with customers to determine the full extent of property loss.
The cause of the fire is unknown and the investigation is continuing, though no suspicious factors are suspected, Bradley said.
