A smoke alarm helped a Henrico family escape a house fire early Saturday morning. At 4:30 a.m. Henrico firefighters responded the 2000 block of Beck Drive for the report of a house on fire. Firefighters began attacking the fire and were able to quickly extinguish it. Henrico fire officals said the family was already outside when they arrived. The family affected by this fire told fire officials they can attest to the need for working smoke alarms in every home. Henrico Fire had installed a fire alarm in the home a couple of years back. That alarm helped during an incident where one of the family members fell asleep while cooking and the smoke detector woke him up. The family then installed a new smoke detector that helped save the family this morning. No firefighters or residents were injured during this incident. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Henrico Fire Marshal’s Office.
