Hampton City Manager Mary Bunting announced Friday that "after an extensive search process that netted a very competitive pool of candidates, I have appointed our own Jason H. Monk to be the permanent Fire Chief. It is especially gratifying to have found the best candidate for this critical role internally. Jason has worked in nearly every aspect of our fire and medical service and has served his entire 22-year career with Hampton."
Monk joined the Fire and EMS service as a student volunteer with the Virginia Tech rescue squad while attending college. He became a member of the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue in 1997 as a medic/firefighter. Since then, he has served in field operations and administrative capacities, in both suppression and EMS. Monk has served as medic/fighter, station officer, EMS field supervisor, suppression battalion chief, and chief medical officer. Read the Fire Division news release.
