The Danville Fire Department has changed its policy to make sure it has enough first responders. Greg Thomas and his son are one of the first legacy hires now able to work together at the same time at the Danville Fire Deptartment. "When I started 25 years ago this was something that could never be," Greg said. His son, Jonathan, said he would watch his father leave on a fire truck and think to himself that he wanted to do that too when he was old enough. Now, that childhood dream is a reality. "To know that your son wants to do the same thing that you've done all your life and know that he wants to follow that path it does give you a sense of pride," Greg said. Gary Matherly and his son Samuel are also a part of Danville Fire Department's legacy hires. "It's a very proud moment," Gary said. "We can pass down what we know straight to them. Stuff that they may not get in the classroom."
