In its meeting Thursday, City Council unanimously voted to devote $11 million in general obligation bonds toward building a second fire station at 912 Capitol Landing Road and making necessary renovations at the existing city fire station on Lafayette Street. In their discussion, Council members agreed that locating a second city fire station along Capitol Landing Road would have address a number of issues, including the need for improved emergency response times throughout more parts of the city. $5,945,000 will be budgeted toward the construction of the new Capitol Landing Road fire station, according to a presentation given to council by Fire Chief Pat Dent, while $5,239,260 is budgeted toward renovation costs for the existing fire station.
