People who are residents of Harrisonburg will get to learn what it is like to be a firefighter in the area.
The department is taking applications for its first-ever Community Fire Academy.
Lieutenant Erin Stehle, the public education officer for HFD, said that participants will learn what it is like to be a firefighter in the area throughout the six-week program.
Stehle said it is an informative and interactive way for people to create memories.
"I think it's important. Sometimes people have those questions of like, you know, 'Why do the firefighters do this on a call?' and one of the awesome things is that they'll have the opportunity as participants to do ride-alongs to actually get that kind of feel," said Stehle.
