A volunteer firefighter from Gordsonville will be among those honored at a memorial service next month.
The Virginia Department of Fire Programs will be hosting the annual Virginia Fallen Firefighters and EMS Memorial Service on June 1 at the Richmond International Raceway Complex.
This is the 22nd year for the service, which was created to honor firefighters and EMS personnel who have died in the line of duty.
This year, Lieutenant William Powell of the Gordsonsville Volunteer Fire Company will be one of the ones recognized.
Powell also worked with Wintergreen Fire and Rescue and the Orange County Rescue Squad.
Others being recognized came from the Bedford County Fire and Rescue, the Norfolk Fire-Rescue, the Hanover County Fire-EMS, the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Association, and the Rockingham County Department of Fire and Rescue.
