Charlottesville firefighters and midwives are working together to improve birth outcomes for newborns in what can be complicated situations. The Charlottesville Fire Department (CFD) is home to the first program of its kind in the area that aims to make home births safer. “There had been a couple of times where our folks just didn't even know what midwives did,” Emily Pelliccia, Charlottesville’s deputy fire chief, said.
