The homeowner and his cat were able to escape, but a structure fire destroyed a home on Piney Ridge Road in the Nathalie community on Saturday afternoon.
North Halifax Volunteer Fire Chief Ronnie Waller said the doublewide home located at 1193 Piney Ridge Road belonged to Clint Guthrie. Twenty firefighters, four trucks and an ambulance from North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department, seven firefighters and three trucks from Liberty Volunteer Fire Department and nine firefighters and three trucks from Brookneal Volunteer Fire Department were on-scene from 3:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m; bringing the blaze under control.
Waller said because the North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department was hosting its annual marathon at the time of the fire, more volunteer firefighters were available to respond to the blaze.
The home was declared a total loss.
The cause of the fire had not been determined as of Sunday afternoon, according to Waller.
