VIDEO: Firefighters from nine departments in Virginia will receive extra training during the Danville Fire Department's Southside Rescue Week.

"We partnered with Pittsylvania County, obviously the Danville Fire Department and the state Department of Fire Programs to bring in four different technical rescue classes." said Jonathan Yeaman, Danville Fire Battalion Chief, Safety and Training.
The firefighters participating are a part of their departments' technical rescue teams.
Throughout the week, they will take confined space, rope, and surface water rescue courses.
"They are things that we call high risk and low frequency events, that takes a specialized form of training that is not available very often." said Yeaman.
With firefighters from different parts of the state, including Lynchburg, Roanoke, Danville, and Pittsylvania County, they're able to take tips and techniques from each other back to their stations.
