James Schwartz was Arlington County’s Deputy Fire Chief 18 years ago when a plane crashed into the Pentagon on September 11th, 2001.
“Not long after we arrived we had the collapse of the building, which just added another dimension to the challenge,” recalled Schwartz.
Schwartz (now deputy county manager) and current Deputy Fire Chief Joe Reshetar (who also responded to the Pentagon on 9/11) attended Arlington County’s ceremony on Tuesday morning to remember the attacks and honor the victims.
“It is very important to remember the people who sacrificed their lives that day,” said Deputy Chief Reshetar. “And to continue to remember them and to focus on them and not lose site of what they gave that day.”
