Suffolk Fire & Rescue crews battled a blaze in an operations building at the SPSA Waste Solutions Regional Landfill on Thursday evening. The fire was reported by a security guard at the facility at 7:19 p.m., according to a city press release. The first units arrived at 7:29 p.m. Chief Michael Barakey said arriving crews found heavy fire showing through the roof of the operations building, which includes administrative offices and a maintenance facility. Heavy equipment located within the maintenance facility were also fully engulfed in flames.
