Fire and rescue crews from Galax and Grayson County teamed up on Wednesday to extinguish a house fire and rescue a family pet in Independence.
According to the Galax Fire Department, crews from Independence and from Galax were dispatched shortly before 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, for a structure fire at 1658 Pleasant Grove.
When units arrived on scene, fire officials say they found fire at the front door and smoke showing from a single-story, wood-frame home. All occupants were reportedly accounted for, but the family dog was trapped inside the house.
Galax Fire Department says Independence crews made entry and quickly contained the fire while members of both departments teamed up to track down the missing pet.
