Chesterfield Fire and EMS has a new four-legged employee in the Fire Marshal’s office. Clover is a 17-month old female Labrador retriever trained in accelerant detection to assist fire investigators in determining the cause of fires. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducts a training program that pairs a fire investigator and canine to work alongside each other during a fire investigation. Assistant Fire Marshal Lieutenant C.F. Shedd and Clover attended the five-week training program and graduated on Dec. 6. Clover began her service on Dec. 7. The team will work together to investigate causes of fires in Chesterfield County and the region.
