Abingdon Fire Chief: 2 dead following Washington County, VA house fire

Two people are dead after being trapped in a house fire in Washington County, Virginia. According to the Meadowview Fire Chief Mark Venable, a couple in their 80s were trapped inside the home in the 11000 block of Mount Calm Drive. One person was able to escape from the fire, Venable said. That person was the son of the victims. The bodies of the two people have not been removed from the home yet. As of 12:27 p.m., firefighters on the scene were still putting out hot spots. The Virginia State Police are on the scene and investigating. A cause of the fire has not been officially determined yet. Firefighters were called to the scene Friday morning around 8:15 a.m., according to Venable.
