Even though North Halifax Volunteer Fire Department’s annual marathon was different than in years past, their take-out version once again brought in community support bringing in roughly $22,000 in donations. NHVFD Fire Chief Ronnie Waller said, “Everyone came and supported us pretty good. We once again want to thank the community who came out and all those who worked.” In addition to their donations, their barbecue plates, chicken plates and dessert brought in $10,200, and they sold $8,000 worth of quarts of stew. Those are the earnings before they take out expenses. “We sold out in the late afternoon,” he added. The Ladies Auxiliary also raffled off a quilt that brought in another $2,460, and they sold 2,000 tickets for a money raffle. “Everything went pretty smooth,” the fire chief concluded.
