A fire truck is heading Winneba, Ghana, one of Charlottesville's sister cities. According to a release, the Charlottesville Fire Department is donating the fire truck, a 2003 Pierce Quantum. This truck has been a part of the city's fire protection fleet for nearly 20 years, serving as Engine 7 at the Ridge Street Fire Station before it was moved to being a reserve engine. The release says this was the engine the department has that had an electronic onboard foam/firefighting agent proportioning system. It was used for several years to respond to hazardous material incidents and its estimated value is $25,000. Since it became a reserve engine, it has filled in for other frontline units on a day-to-day basis while other trucks were out for repair. This fire truck was removed from service in 2020 and CFD is giving it to the Charlottesville Fire Company.
