Seven people have been displaced after a fire at an apartment building on Restmere Road in the Wards Corner area of Norfolk early Tuesday morning. No injuries were reported. It started around 5:30 a.m. in the 7700 block between Birmingham Avenue and Timothy Avenue and crews had the fire under control around 6:14 a.m. Firefighters say it started in a first floor unit in the four-unit building and extended to the second floor. It was caused by two power strips that were connected together under a bed. Firefighters say connecting two strips together is a big safety hazard and should never be an option. The Red Cross is helping the displaced residents.
