The Fall Fire Season has begun in Virginia, and forestry officials want residents to learn about wildfire prevention.
According to a release, this includes taking precautions if planning to burn yard debris.
The Virginia Department of Forestry says its top priority is to protect forest resources and Virginia citizens from wildfire as well as reduce the impacts to the forest from other threats.
As part of the fire season, VDOF relies on collaboration from all fire departments across the Commonwealth, other land management agencies, and the cooperation of residents and visitors.
“The local volunteer and paid fire departments all across Virginia are critical in our success,” John Miller, Director of Fire and Emergency Response for VDOF says. “They are essential to our ability to respond swiftly to all wildfires and suppress them early on.”
