New cases of COVID-19 are on the decline across Virginia. But Dr. Scott Spillman with the Danville Health Department said that there are still missing pieces to the puzzle when it comes to getting through the pandemic. This week, the Virginia Department of Health COVID-19 Dashboard shows the lowest number of daily cases since June. But these numbers are still not where health officials want them. Dr. Spillmann says there aren’t many days that go by without a COVID-related death. The current positivity rate in Danville remains over 12%. When it comes to cases in Virginia communities, unreported data is becoming a growing concern. Especially when it comes to at-home testing. “People are just not sharing. Some people will tell a lot but most people, growing more and more, ‘Well, we’re just not going to tell you.' We’re not going to quarantine or isolate ourselves out of this. We need to vaccinate ourselves out of this,” Dr. Spillmann said.
