Two separate Bedford County homes — located just a mile apart — were struck by lightning Saturday, leaving one family displaced, according to Boonsboro Fire Chief Lewis Lichford. At approximately 5:21 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 6, Boonsboro Volunteer Fire & Rescue says its crews — along with crews from Forest and Bedford — responded to the 1400 block of Coffee Road for reports of a structure fire with smoke inside the house. Upon arrival, units say they found a two-story brick veneer home with a walk-out basement. Nothing was visible from the outside, so firefighters checked the inside, where they found a small fire in the basement crawl space. After bringing in a water can and thermal imager, first responders reportedly extinguished the fire and proceeded to ventilate the home.
