Brush fire threatened homes in Roanoke County

PHOTO: Some residents in the Back Creek area of Roanoke County are back in their homes after being evacuated due to a brush fire. The Roanoke County Department of Fire and Rescue says they were dispatched at approximately 5:34 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20 to the area of Mt. Chestnut Road. When firefighters arrived they reported the area was filled with smoke with about three to four acres on fire. They report five structures with outbuildings were threatened by the fire, and due to this residents had to be temporarily evacuated. Fire crews say multiple units responded to the call including the Virginia Department of Forestry. None of the homes were damaged and residents have returned. According to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue, the total area burned equaled 4.6 acres and no one was injured.
