On Monday, Bekka Gilbert escaped a two-alarm fire at her Everett apartment complex. “I’m hearing my roommates scream, 'Get out! Get out! There’s a fire! There’s a fire!' ” said Gilbert, outside her parents' house in Marysville. After initially escaping the blaze, Bekka said she went back into the smoke to help save others. “I just thought, I need to put this out. I need to make sure those kids are safe,” said Gilbert, who says she lives with a family of seven, including four kids under the age of four years old. “My father is an Army veteran. He taught me to fight and protect the ones around me," she said. "If anything, I gave the fire department a few extra minutes.” According to Everett Fire, there were no serious injuries and everyone was able to evacuate the fire that torched a side unit of the complex on West Casino Road.
