A 35-year-old man was killed as he tried to cross I-5 near Stanwood Sunday evening.
It was around 6 p.m. when the man was seen entering the freeway around milepost 213 and then running across the southbound lanes.
He was first struck by a southbound Volkswagen Jetta, then two more cars, according to Trooper Heather Axtman. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. All three drivers remained at the scene and were cooperating with investigators, Axtman said, and no charges will be filed.
Detectives are still looking into why the man was on the freeway.
