The cause of a 3-alarm fire that destroyed the historic Heritage Building in Auburn last December has been confirmed as accidental.
Fire investigators were able to determine the fire began in or around a clothes dryer in the common laundry room. There were no serious injuries to people, and everyone who lived there got out. So did the business owners who lived below the apartments. But one dog died in the fire.
But many of the 39 people who lived in the building lost everything in the fire.
Representatives from the insurance industry, appliance manufacturers, electrical engineers, forensic engineers and the Valley Regional Fire Authority worked over an eight-month period to determine what led to the fire.
