A woman in her 60s died in a house fire around 1 P.M. Tuesday, in the 5400 block of Fiesta St. SW in Tumwater, according to Tumwater Fire Chief Scott LaVielle. LaVielle said when fire crews arrived on scene they were advised someone was trapped in the house. The fire department went into rescue mode and located the victim on the floor in the back area of the house near a sliding glass door. Firefighters were able to pull her out and medics worked to revive her for 20 minutes but they were unsuccessful. Based on preliminary findings, the only source of heat was a wood burning stove. LaVielle says a lot of combustibles were near the wood stove and thinks this was the point of the fire's origin. LaVielle said none of the smoke detectors in the home were working.
