Olympia Firefighters responded to an apartment fire at the 600 block of Courtside Street SW at 1:38 a.m., Monday morning. A resident called 911 saying there was smoke coming out of an apartment window. The first engine arrived six minutes later to find a two story apartment building with smoke coming out of the first floor apartment. Crews entered the apartment and quickly extinguished the fire. All occupants were able to evacuate the building prior to the fire department’s arrival, no injuries reported. Olympia Assistant Fire Chief Mike Buchanan says the fire began inside the entry way of the apartment. It appears that ashes from smoking materials ignited items stored within a box.
