Emergency personnel in Yakima are responding at record times, just under four minutes. The Yakima Fire Department's (YFD) annual report said SunComm is answering 911 calls within four seconds. Then on average, YFD says from the time they get the call to when firefighter leave the station is 105 seconds and to the destination in under four minutes, that's faster than their target time. Yakima Fire Chief Aaron Markham said their response times can sometimes be impacted by weather and other conditions. "Whether it's multiple calls at the same time, an apparatus out of station or position, training exercises joining on, their host of things that could impact the response time," Markham said. According to the fire report, Yakima fire crews responded to over 10,000 calls last year, with only about 600 being fires.
