An elderly man was found dead after a fire in downtown Winslow Thursday night. Emergency responders were called to Winslow Green at 8 p.m. April 18 for a two-alarm commercial fire. Photos posted on social media showed large flames escaping from windows in the upper floor of the complex, above the pharmacy and adjacent clothing store. Bainbridge Island Fire Chief Hank Teran said an elderly man was a fatality. The victim was not immediately identified. Teran said it was not clear if the man was a resident or a visitor to the housing units in the mixed-use development, a mixture of first-floor businesses and upper level homes near the corner of Winslow Way and Madison Avenue. Four others in the complex were treated for smoke inhalation but were not transported to the hospital.
