Fire District 4 is using a new Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus. An SCBA is a piece of personal protective equipment used by firefighters to breath clean air in smokey, hazardous environments. The new devices were commissioned to meet current National Fire Protection Association Standards. The masks are larger, providing more visibility to the user. They are also equipped with a speaker to provide improved communication between firefighters. The equipment also feature a new heads up display to allow firefighters to easily see the amount of air remaining in their cylinders. The air cylinders increased in capacity, but not in size.
