Franklin County firefighters made a lot of progress in the past few hours on the Esquatzel Fire.
According to Franklin County District 1 Fire Chief Eric Mauseth, the fire is 80% contained. About 475 acres have burned, and he does not believe that number will grow overnight. Winds played a huge factor in this fire.
Mauseth said the fire was 20 by 20 before the wind took it, causing the fire to explode over a hill.
The fire started on 395, a few miles north of Eltopia around 3:00 p.m. Sunday. Mauseth said the person who reported the fire told dispatchers they saw a car towing a trailer when the fire sparked. However, investigators will look to confirm a cause.
No structures were threatened, and no evacuations were put in place.
Mauseth said the fire is out and there are no active flames. All the fire districts from Franklin County helped contain the fire as well as other agencies.
"It's nice to get help from neighboring fire districts," Mauseth said.
