Firefighters extinguished a backyard fire before it was able to spread to neighboring homes, then responded to a second brush fire at Dash Point State Park on Monday. At approximately 3:47 p.m., South King Fire and Rescue responded to the brush fire near the 39600 block of 3rd Ave. S. A resident had illegally burned some brush in their backyard, according to SKFR Lt. Brad Chaney. No one was injured and no property damage occurred from the fire. At 5:21 p.m., South King Fire Tweeted that units were on scene of a 30-by-30 brush fire at Dash Point State Park behind the ranger station. According to the on-duty Battalion Chief Ryan Herrera, the fire was easily contained and with no injuries and minimal damage. While Herrera said it is unknown what caused the start of the brush fire, the heat mixed with the dryness of the area could have been a factor.
