The Yakima Fire Department put out two house fires within about eight hours overnight. Firefighters first responded to the 700 block of S. 17th St. at about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday for a report of smoke coming from the eaves of a house. The fire charred the roof's structural support, so crews removed the ceiling in order to put out the fire. The utility company cut power due to burned circuits. The cause is believed to have been a circuit overload. The fire caused an estimated $20,000 in damage. One family was displaced but there were no injuries. The second call came out from the 1600 block of E. Mead Ave. around 4:50 a.m. Wednseday. Responding crews found the fire in a bedroom.
