Firework injuries and fires in Washington state surpassed 300 so far in 2019. The Washington state fire marshal’s office released its firework-related incident tally. Of the 331 reports of firework incidents reported by hospitals, clinics and fire agencies, 297 occurred between June 28 and July 5. The majority of injuries were caused by people holding fireworks while they were lit or standing too close to fireworks once they were lit. The total is on-par with recent year-over-year trends. In Grant County, there were a total of 10 fires caused by fireworks and there were 10 injuries caused by pyrotechnic displays. According to the state fire marshal’s office, most of the injuries were burns to hands and one was a laceration to the calf. Chelan County says there was one known fire caused by fireworks and no reports of injuries.
