The driver accused of hitting a Yakima firefighter has turned himself into police. 40-year-old Hilario Rioz Altamirano of Grandview allegedly hit 62-year-old Terry Carter, a firefighter with Yakima County Fire District #5. It happened on Sunday morning, while firefighters were responding to a rollover crash on I-82 near Granger. Altamirano allegedly lost control of his car and hit Carter, who was at the back of the fire truck in the left-hand lane. Court documents say Altamirano got out of his car, approached the firefighter, then took off. Carter was sent to the hospital with back pain and a possible concussion. He was released from the hospital that day. Detectives recovered car pieces and determined the car was a white 2011-2013 Nissan Versa.
