At least one person was injured in a two-alarm fire that broke out Friday in a Kent apartment complex.
Firefighters responded to the scene, the Woodland Estates in the 4800 block of South Kent Des Moines Road, at around 9 a.m. after receiving reports of smoke and flames in the building. A second alarm was sounded soon afterward.
Residents were evacuated from the complex as crews battled flames that had broken out on the fourth floor, according to Puget Sound Fire & Rescue.
At least one resident of the apartment complex suffered an injury, officials said. The stubborn blaze reportedly spread into the overhead, prolonging firefighting efforts. The fire was extinguished by about 10:15 a.m. after crews used chain saws and other equipment to create multiple openings in the roof.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
