Man arrested for allegedly starting fire in abandoned Spokane house

Spokane police officers and firefighters were called to an abandoned home in northwest Spokane Wednesday morning for reports of smoke coming out at second story window. The boarded-up home is at Crown Ave. and Rustle St., a few blocks from the VA Medical Center and Dwight Merkel Sports Complex. Fire crews were able to put out the flames with an extinguisher. Police officers found Raymond Smyers tresspassing on the property. Smyers was arrested and charged with 2nd degree burglary, 1s degree reckless burning, and posession of a controlled substance, according to Spokane police officer John O'Brien.
