VIDEO: A Puyallup mother was honored Monday for saving her two young children from a devastating fire in their apartment last November. The fire started on an early Sunday morning at the Cambridge apartments on 7th Street Southeast. Juliana Vega-Zamora says she wrapped her 7-year-old and 15-month-old sons in blankets and lowered them out of the apartment from a second story window. They were all taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation but have all since recovered. Monday, her whole family was there to see Juliana get a Life Saving Award from Central Pierce Fire & Rescue. "I feel proud that the city and the fire rescue gave me this prize for saving my family," Vega-Zamora said. Firefighters say a lesson we can all learn from this fire is to close your bedroom door before you fall asleep.
