The city of Seattle is rolling out new surveillance technology that will collect and store people's personal information -- everything from names and birthdays to video recordings.
At a meeting Wednesday night, the public got a chance to see some examples. For Seattle Fire, it comes with an upgrade to their computer-aided dispatch system, or CAD.
The city says CAD helps firefighters respond more quickly in an emergency, and some of the information volunteered by 911 callers could end up being stored for future reference.
Meanwhile, Seattle Police and city road crews are also expanding their use of surveillance technologies, which would include video camera systems.
Some people we spoke to say they're OK with it as long as the city is using the data for the right reasons.
"If they're just watching to watch, I think that's where it definitely crosses a line it would certainly change my behavior and I’d feel uncomfortable in the city," said Kelsey Finch.
