No one was injured Wednesday afternoon in a house fire on Cornell Avenue in Yakima.
The fire started in the bathroom, and a person inside the home – alerted by a smoke detector – attempted to extinguish it with flour, making it worse, Yakima Fire Department Shift Commander Jennifer Norton said.
The resident was able to safely escape, and firefighters had the fire out by 3 p.m.
Roads in the area are back open. Damage was estimated at $40,000.
