Yakima County Fire District 5 were called to a reported dog house fire Monday morning. The homeowners say that their daughter was woken up by the smell of smoke and as a family they attempted to get rid of the flames themselves with a fire extinguisher. Officers were later advised the fire had spread to into the families home. Firefighters immediately tried to extinguish the flames from the outside of the home and once the flames calmed down crew went inside to finish the job.. It is believed a heat lamp located in the dog house for the families puppies is what started the fire. Only one of the puppies survived. The home is a total loss according to officials with a estimated loss at $170,000.
