Pasco firefighters were being trained on a technique that uses fire against fire. The Pasco Fire Department had their yearly training on how to fight larger wild land fires with drip torch training today. The drip torch is filled with a mix of gasoline and diesel. Firefighters learned how to tip the can over and light the ground on fire in a line. They practiced doing this around the area that they are working to protect. When larger wild land fires approach the line of fire that fire fighters have created, it creates a wall preventing the fire from spreading. Ben Shearer from the Pasco Fire Department said, " trying to put a water line down doesn’t work ... trying to get out ahead of a big flame front is very hard to do and it isn’t safe. “Using a fire line technique like we are practicing here is a safe way and efficient way for firefighters to fight fires," said Shearer.
