A parachuter was stuck for nearly three hours Wednesday afternoon at the corner of Rainier Road SE and Military Road SE as first responders attempted to scale a large tree, sever parachute lines and bring the recreationalist to safety. The Southeast Thurston Fire Authority and other first responders were at the scene around 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, in an attempt to summit the 100-foot tall tree and rescue the hanging parachuter. Shortly after arrival, the Thurston County Special Operations Rescue Team was called in to make the rescue, according to a narrative by Southeast Thurston Fire Authority. The team attempted a tree rigging maneuver due to the tree not having any branches from its base to 50 feet up. The parachuter told first responders that his parachute got stuck around 11:15 a.m. The scene was cleared at 2:15 p.m.
