Benton County firefighters responded to a vegetation fire in the back of a home on Wednesday morning.
Just after 9 a.m., firefighters were sent to E Sunset Meadows loop in Kennewick where the fire broke out in the backyard, near a hill with dry brush.
Firefighters on scene tell us a lawnmower company was at work when a mower struck a rock or shard and sparked the fire, which caused damage to a vinyl fence and shrubbery. The fire was quickly contained, and no one was injured.
Local firefighters recommend not lawn mowing on windy days to avoid the potential for a larger wildfire.
